Responsibility for Admission
By law, parents of children between the ages of 5 and 16 must see that they receive suitable full time education. Arrangements for academy admissions to Oaklands are governed by the London Borough of Bromley “Admissions Policy” and our own Governing Body. We admit new pupils to the academy in the term before their fifth birthday in September, in line with Bromley’s admission policy. This states that parents can now opt for a September start, even if their child is not yet five. You’ll find a detailed description of this policy in the booklet, “Admissions to Primary Academies”, which is available from Academies and public libraries.
Transfer from Other Academies
If you would like your child to come to Oaklands, please contact us to arrange a visit. We’ll do our very best to make sure the Head or Deputy takes you round the academy in person. There is no obligation to send your child to Oaklands once you have visited; the decision is yours.
Bromley Admissions co-ordinates applications for all Bromley infant, junior and primary schools. To apply for a primary school place other than for reception transfer, ie for current reception to current Year 6, you need to download and complete the primary in-year application form or collect a form from main reception at Bromley Civic Centre (Monday-Friday 08.30-17.00).
There are occasions when it’s not possible to admit a child because the class would become too large. If this happens, we may put your child on a waiting list or refer you to another academy where room may be available. In some cases, we can offer a place in a class that is not strictly the correct age group, if that class has vacant places. All decisions about admissions to academy are subject to the 'Appeals Procedure', details of which can be found in the Authority's central guidance, contained in the Bromley Admission to Academies Booklet. You can find this in the Bromley Civic Centre and local libraries.
Children with an Education, Health and Care Plan
If your child has an Education, Health and Care plan, please do not complete an in- year application form but contact the Special Educational Needs team on 020 8313 4164 for further information.
