As the oldest year group within the academy, we undertake many activities in addition to those on offer elsewhere. We have a residental for our school journey and take part in lots of activities such as kayaking and climbing. Throughout the year, we are visited by Transport for London for talks on road safety and take part in the Junior Citizens Scheme. At the end of the year, we put together a production.
As part of this, children in year 6 are expected to set the example in terms of behaviour for the rest of the school. They are often asked to help out with parent information days and other visitors. Children are encouraged to become more independent when working on homework and other activities in preparation for secondary school. Our Year 6 pupils also run our very popular school Tuck Shop, where they carry out all aspects of the business including stock control and ordering; managing a budget; serving customers and merchandising of the healthy snacks on offer. The skills acquired through the enterprise of Tuck Shop are then applied across our whole curriculum.
As the oldest year group within the academy, we undertake many activities in addition to those on offer elsewhere. We visit Wales for our school journey and take part in lots of activities such as kayaking and climbing. Throughout the year, we are visited by Transport for London for talks on road safety and Medical Marvels who come into the school so the children can experience different job roles within the NHS. Children are also given extra responsibility whereby they are given prefect and house captain roles.
At the end of the year, we will put together a production to include everyone in the year group: actors, singers, the choir, directors, musicians, technicians and so on! It really will be a celebration of all of the children’s talents.
