Welcome to Year 5
In Year 5 we have high expectations of the children in our classes, both academically and behaviour-wise. We endeavour to make our lessons creative and current throughout the curriculum. Year 5 is an extremely important year as we encourage the children to be more independent before their final year of primary education.
We work together to ensure the children benefit from our strengths and we strive to create a positive working environment and therefore respond pro-actively to any disruptive behaviour to ensure all children have the opportunity to work and achieve their full potential. We also ensure that our Y5 classrooms are supportive, nurturing spaces. We listen to problems, whether they are social or academic, and encourage the children to ask for help when they need it. We also work hard to celebrate successes of individuals in all areas.
What’s in store for Y5 pupils?
Y5 is an incredibly busy year – there’s a mission to Mars (virtually of course) and a trip along the world’s rivers (sadly virtually too!) The children explore fairground rides through their Science and DT, they learn all about life in exotic locations like Jamaica and Greece and step back into the past to learn about Ancient Greece and The Viking and Anglo-Saxon struggle for the Kingdom of England to the time of Edward the Confessor. All this is just the tip of the Y5 iceberg. We can guarantee a jam-packed year of learning and fun. We even manage to squeeze in a school journey too, where your child can carry out a wide range of outdoor, adventurous activities. Year 5 will be a year to remember!
Our Y5 Curriculum and Year end expectations
Y5 Dip 'N' Do Homework
- For each half term, we have set 6 activities covering different areas of the curriculum. Children can then pick the activity that most inspires them and motivates them, or that aligns with the current learning - they have the freedom to 'get creative' and are encouraged to share their 'dip and do' in class.
- Our aim is to make homework fun and engaging! Homework is an extension of our rich and varied new curriculum and these activities are designed to encourage the following and headings may include over the year :
Get observing Get making Get thinking Get creative
Get reading Get writing Get inventing Get researching
Get fit Get sketching Get arty Get visiting Get talking
- We will also include online learning using areas such as DB primary (our safe and secure platform), Times Tables Rocks Stars, Spelling Frame activities and Bug Club - we expect all children to READ, READ, READ, READ AND READ SOME MORE!
- Please do print off a copy as needed; if there are any issues with the links, please contact our admin team. If you would like any of these emailed, do get in touch - we would be delighted to email them to you. Enjoy and have fun dipping and doing!
